About Simon Langton Brass
Our story, our music and our community.
Our Story
Simon Langton Brass was formed in 2011 by its founding Musical Director, David Cutting, with the aim of creating an inclusive and ambitious brass band while encouraging young musicians to develop their musical skills in a supportive and inspiring environment. The band rehearses at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys in Canterbury, reflecting its strong links with both local education and the wider community.
Since its formation, the band has benefited from the musical leadership of several dedicated conductors. Following David Cutting, the role of Musical Director was held by Andy Collins and then Keith Tywman. More recently, Michael Brimson provided interim musical direction, ensuring continuity and ongoing musical development.
Today, Simon Langton Brass is led by Musical Director David Lockwood. With a passion for brass banding and youth development, David is committed to encouraging musicians of all ages and abilities to achieve their potential. Through a varied and engaging repertoire, he seeks to inspire the next generation of players while maintaining a welcoming, enjoyable, and rewarding musical environment for all.
Known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, Simon Langton Brass provides a place where experienced players, returning musicians, and young performers can enjoy making music together. The band prides itself on being a supportive musical family, where members are encouraged to develop their skills, build confidence, and share in the enjoyment of making music.
As the band continues to grow, Simon Langton Brass remains committed to developing musicianship, supporting brass banding within the local community, and delivering high-quality performances that entertain and inspire audiences across Kent and beyond.
